Costa Dorada is called “the Golden Coast,” and its renowned coastal strip that begins south of Barcelona, continues past the outskirts of Tarragona, and ends down by the inlet of the Ebro river! Costa Dorada consists of mile after mile of shallow, sandy beaches lined by charming holiday resorts, each with their own personal characteristics and attributes!
Costa Dorada is characterised by an almost uninterrupted succession of stunning, golden beaches along its 92 kilometre coastal strip. The area in southern Catalonia is particularly popular and attractive to families travelling with children. The many holiday resorts like Salou Tarragona Sitges Castelldefels offer convenient transportation with trains or buses to get around and experience the contrast between sceneries along the coast and the inland!
Here you have all opportunities and there are thousands of options to enjoy its magnificent nature and take part in the gigantic selection of outdoor activities like hiking, mountain bike tours, horseriding, water sports, diving, and golf, of course! With some of the most beautiful golf courses in Spain, Costa Dorada is an excellent destination for golf enthusiasts. It offers the perfect mix of a relaxing beach holiday and exciting excursions and adventures. Costa Dorada has something for everyone!
N.B! In Catalonia all tourists must pay a tourist tax which is paid directly to the hotel. The tax is between 0.5-3 euro per person and night. Children under the age of 15 do not have to pay the tax.
Tips!
In Salou you’ll find a 1.2 kilometre of golden beach, Blue Flag-certified, which is one of the most famous beaches in Costa Dorada. You’ll also find the Port Aventura amusement park here, one of the largest parks in Europe!
The ancient Roman settlement Tarraco (the old Roman name for the current city of Tarragona) lives on in Tarragona with historical monuments that have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Two examples of sights we recommend you visit are the Roman circus, where horse races were held, and the remains of the city wall the Romans built in 218BC to protect their settlement, when they had claimed it as their territory.
If Salou is the destination for families with children, Sitges is the obvious destination for metropolitans, party animals, and gay travellers! Sitges is a colourful city we promise will take you by storm!
And just 20 minutes from the big city atmosphere of the metropolitan Barcelona you’ll find the relatively unexploited small town Castelldefels. Here you’ll experience the best of two worlds – a relaxing holiday atmospere close to shopping and the kind of entertainment and nightlife you can only find in Barcelona!
Regardless of whether you’re looking for a comfortable destination for your family, a colourful trip with your friends, or a romantic getaway, we encourage you to visit Costa Dorada and discover all it has to offer.
