Lefkas

Lefkada – this green and beautiful destination is one of the Ionian islands on the west coast of Greece.

The island offers spectacular beaches with divine turquoise waters being among the best in all of Greece. Porto Katsiki is a dream for anyone who loves the blue sea, and it holds the title of Greece’s most photographed beach – a must when you are on Lefkada! In addition to the perfect beaches, Lefkada proudly shows off one of Greece’s most dramatic landscapes that consist largely of mountains and forests. If you like big nature and impressive views, this is the perfect destination for you.

Lefkada is one of the greenest and most beautiful islands we have been to, but the island’s Greek name – Lefkada (as it is said in Greek and English) – means “the white island”. The name comes from the white cliffs that dominate the island’s western coast.

The lovely Lefkada town in the northeast is beautifully situated in one corner of the large saltwater lagoon that separates Lefkada and the mainland. Almost all tourist resorts are located along the eastern and southern coasts, and it is a bit funny because the finest beaches are on the west coast.

For us, Agios Nikitas is without a doubt Lefkada’s finest and cosiest coastal village. There is a perfect mix of old and new, touristy and genuine. In addition, the village is architecturally beautiful. Nydri is the island’s largest tourist resort and is extremely beautiful, situated on the edge of a large bay with lovely water. It is a real pleasure to sit on a tavern at the harbour boardwalk and look out over the magnificent landscape. Other villages we recommend are Nikiana, Vlichos, Sivota and Poros.

A trip to Lefkada is perfect for you who want to live near the real Greece! Lefkada is less known than the neighbouring islands of Corfu and Zakynthos, but the island is just as beautiful.

Flight

Lefkada does not have an airport. The plane lands in Preveza on the mainland from where you go by bus to Lefkada (it is also possible to pre-book a transfer during the booking process).

Tourist attractions

Lefkada’s largest attraction is the beautiful nature and fine archipelago. A few kilometres from Nydri, there is a small waterfall that is worth a visit. We also recommend day trips to some of the authentic mountain villages, with Drimona, Exanthia, Karia, Chortata and Komilio at the forefront. There are no temples or other ancient monuments that you have to see on the island, but if you have time, you can rent a car and drive to Parga where there is a lot to see, both in Parga itself and nearby.

Tips

Don’t miss the Yeni Peninsula where some beaches are not that well-known yet.
