To popular and climate friendly Miami, Florida you can fly in around 11 hours with direct flights and this celebrity hot spot is located in the south of Florida. Miami offers an exciting combination of beaches and city life. You travel here for the Caribbean beaches, the American sportiness, the shopping and the legendary nightlife. Florida is always a good idea. Find your personal favourite in Miami beach or in the town close by, Fort Lauderdale, a glamorous dream with mile-long beaches. Unlike New York, you have good weather all year round in Florida/Miami. That makes Miami an excellent destination for winter time.
Passport and entry permit
ESTA
Swedes are allowed to travel to USA on holiday and stay up until 90 days without a visa. To be able to do this you have to apply for the entry permit called ESTA, preferably an application should be made 3 days before your trip. An accepted ESTA-application is valid for 2 years, or as long as your passport is valid.
Nordic citizens don’t need a visa to travel to USA, but you will need an entry permit (ESTA) and an electronic passport. You have to apply for your entry permit no later than 72 hours before departure, to be allowed to board. It’s important that the information in your application is the same as the information on your passport. You apply and pay for the entry permit yourself and it’s valid two years after approval. An application costs 14 dollars. The application for the entry permit ESTA has to be done at their official website. You have to show your application number when you check in at the airport.
Electronic passport
From the 1st of April 2016 you will also need an electronic passport as well as your approved ESTA-application. The passport needs to be valid for the duration of your stay in America. The electronic passport has a certain symbol at the front and an in-beaded electronic chip.
An E-passport is the same thing as a biometric passport. All passports that are valid and issued in Sweden should have this. If you have a foreign passport you should be aware of this.

Taxi
There’re plenty of taxis in all the bigger cities. They are simple to use and the pricing is always the same no matter the company. It’s a fixed price and non-negotiable.
Tip
You are expected to tip at most service places in America. At restaurants you should tip around 15-20 % of the bill, taxi around 10% and baggage claim at hotel/airports approx. 1-2 USD/bag and around 1-2 USD/day for hotel cleaning.
Tourist tax
The hotels in America charge a resort fee and tax is around 17-27 USD per room and night, which is payed directly to the hotel upon arrival. This fee covers the common facilities such as WiFi. The fee is mandatory and the exact amount is calculated upon arrival at the hotel. Please be aware that the hotels in America usually have an age limit of 21 years. That means that at least one person in the travel group must be 21 years old.
