Krabi

If you like beautiful scenery, lovely sea and crunchie, yet soft beaches then Krabi will be an excellent option for a vacation out of the ordinary.

The province of Krabi has approximately 450,000 inhabitants and here you find Ao Nang, Koh Lanta, Ko Phi Phi and more. The province is an excellent starting point for excursions as there are about 150 islands, both large and small, to visit. The rest of the world discovered the region in the year 2000 thanks to the film “The Beach” starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

The city of Krabi, with about 25,000 residents, is located approximately 850 kilometres south of the Thai capital, Bangkok. Before the 80’s, Krabi was a small fishing village until the first round of tourists found it and turned Krabi into a fully-fledged city, where tourism is now the most important source of income. Climbing, bird watching, scuba diving, golfing and horseriding are some of the excitements you can find, with Krabi city as a starting point. The bus station is located about 7 km outside the town, and is called Ban Talaad, where, among other things, buses to Phuket and Bangkok depart. However, the distances within the town itself are short and the best way to get around is usually by foot. The beaches, on the other hand, are a good distance from the city centre and you can get there by songthaew (public taxi), motorbike taxi or boat. Krabi’s river pier is called Chao Fah and from there boats go to Ko Phi Phi and Koh Lanta.

However, the seaside resort of Ao Nang which is also in the Krabi province. The resort has a colourful bunch of shops, restaurants and market stalls, but the nightlife in Ao Nang is a far-cry from the bustle of other Thai tourist resorts. Here you usually slip into a bar or sit a little longer at the restaurant in the evenings. With a longtail boat you can easily reach the fine beaches of the nearby islands.

There is a minibus service from the airport in Krabi if you manage to fill the bus. Otherwise there are taxi services available from the airport. Norwegian Holidays also offers transfer as an option when booking your trip. To go to many hotels you choose between private taxi or shuttle bus.

Good to Know:

As a UK citizen, you do not need a visa to stay in Thailand if you stay for less than 30 days, since you automatically receive a 30 day tourist visa on arrival. For travel to Thailand, you must have a valid travel document in the form of a passport, and the period of validity must be at least 6 months. Travelling from the UK, there are no requirements for vaccinations for entry into Thailand. Make sure you also have valid and good travel insurance.

Keep in mind that smoking is not permitted in many public places and in many hotels – designated areas for smoking are sometimes available. It is also forbidden to import or use electronic cigarettes in Thailand.

In order to preserve Thailand’s nature and beaches, Thai authorities have removed commercial activities on the beaches. This means that certain activities are no longer permitted on the beaches, such as beach cafés and rental of sun loungers and parasols.

Please note that it is common for the hotel to charge a deposit for the minibar when checking in.

At some accommodation children usually share a bed with their parents, i.e you might have to share an existing bed or beds in the room/apartment.
