Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv, Hebrew for “Spring Hill”, is a city located along the Mediterranean coast and that was founded as late as in 1909. This young and modern city is the second biggest in Israel!

The city is referred to as the “White City” after UNESCO put Tel Aviv on the World Heritage List in July 2003 due to the large concentration of buildings built in Bauhaus style during the 1930s which characterises the streets, squares, and avenues of the city today. Tel Aviv is home to one of the best-kept collections of “international architecture” in the world.

The city attracts curious tourists, urbane musicians, and young people at the start of their career that are curious about Tel Aviv’s more secular parts and blooming club and art scene, trendy venues and bars (this is where you will find Israel’s best nightlife!), beautiful beaches, the old boardwalk, vibrant markets, and colorful gay scene!

Getting around! Tel Aviv is 52 square kilometres big and the area is overall flat. With an almost all year round sunshine, we recommend you to put on your walking shoes and start strolling on the streets. The municipality offers 24 guided tours every day, and four of those are free.

We also recommend you to use public transport called “sherut”, which are special minibuses that follow the same routes as buses with about the same price. However, they also stop in between allocated stops to let people on and off. The sheruts do not follow a time table and run pretty much every day, including Sabbath (Friday afternoon – Saturday night) when normal buses and trains stop running.

Tips! Are you curious about the “White City”? The municipality offers a daily free tour of the Bauhaus district at 11 am starting at 46 Rothschild Boulevard at the corner of Shadal Street!

Psst: The summer season in Tel Aviv is long. You can swim and sunbathe long after the other Mediterranean resorts have closed for the season!

Welcome to Israel’s “Happy Place” with the saying: If you want to pray, go to Jerusalem. If you want to work, go to Haifa. But, if you want to play, go to Tel Aviv!
