In the center of the city there are several shopping centres, such as Beverly Center and The Grove. At the well known street of Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, you will find stores, restaurants and bars with a high hipster factor. Of course, this is only a small selection of everything Los Angeles has to offer for those who like to do some shopping.

After several hours of shopping you will need to boost your energy and you’ll have a huge selection to choose from. In Los Angeles, there is food from all over the world, everything from exclusive gourmet restaurants to cosy pubs. You can also count on a large selection of bars and nightclubs, and, while you’re at it, why don’t you go se a movie in this incredible movie town? If you’re lucky you might even get to see a movie premiere?

Sun & Beach

In and around Los Angeles there are several beaches well worth a visit, no matter whether it’s for a refreshing swim in the summer or a nice walk during the cooler months.

Just south of popular Santa Monica and Venice Beach you will find Manhattan Beach, which a bit quieter alternative. Further south you will find Long Beach and Huntington Beach, and at Long Beach you can also visit an aquarium. North of the city is El Matador State Beach, which offers amazing views and dramatic rock formations. The beach has been appointed the most beautiful beach in the area.

In the north you will also find Zuma Beach, Surfrider Beach and Point Dume State Beach, which are all well liked spots for surfers.

Passport and entry permit

ESTA
Most EU nationals are allowed to travel to the US on vacation and stay for up to 90 days without a visa. To be able to do this, you must apply for the entry permit ESTA. An application should preferably be made no later than 3 days before departure. An approved ESTA application is valid for 2 years, or for as long as the passport is valid. Make sure to investigate which rules that are applicable for you and all members of your travel group.

Most EU nationals do not need a visa for entry into the US, but an entry permit (ESTA) and a machine-readable e-passport are needed. You must apply for your entry permit at least 72 hours before departure in order to obtain a permit for boarding. It is important that the information in your registration matches the information in your passport. You have to apply and pay for your own entry permit, which is valid for two years following approval. Application for the entry permit ESTA must be done at their official site. You must present your application number at the check-in at the airport. Again, make sure to investigate which rules that are applicable for you and all members of your travel group.

E-passport

From April 1, 2016, in addition to an approved ESTA application, you must have an electronic passport that is valid throughout your stay in the United States. The e-passport is marked with a special symbol on the front and has an embedded electronic chip.

An E-passport is the same as a biometric passport.

Get around

If you want to explore the different areas of Los Angeles, the easiest way is to rent a car, but if you only plan to stay close to your hotel it’s enough to walk or take a taxi. Also, the buses are of high standard with air conditioning.

Flights

The Los Angeles airport is 24 kilometers outside the city centre, and there are many possibilities to get to the center of Los Angeles. If you take the airport bus, Metropolitan express, it will take you all the way to Union Station, the same goes for the bus LAX FlyWay. You cannot take the train directly from the airport; however, there is a bus line taking you all the way to the subway station. You can also take a taxi.

Tip

It is expected that you give a tip at most service places in the USA, including restaurants, taxis, luggage carriers and hotel cleaning.

Tourist tax

The hotels in USA charge a resort fee and tax, and it’s payed directly to the hotel when you check in. The fee covers certain common facilities like WiFi. The fee is mandatory and the exact amount is calculated upon arrival. Please be aware that the hotels in USA normally have an age limit of 21 years. That means that at least 1 person in the group must be 21 years old.
