Santorini

Picture perfect in Greece!

Tourists come to Santorini from all over the world to, among other things, take in one of the world’s most beautiful sunsets – and it is breathtaking! Here, the sun sets over a stunning landscape with red and white sand beaches, impressive architecture, volcanos and a vivid night life!

Santorini is a Greek group of islands in the Aegean Sea and a part of the larger group of islands and prefecture Cyclades. It’s also called Thira, the capital is the town of Fira and it’s situated about 11 miles south of Ios and 68 miles north of Crete.

The legend of the lost civilization of Atlantis is one of the most well known myths in the world, and a “popular” theory is that it is identical to the volcano island of Santorini. Was it Santorini that Plato was talking about some 2,300 years ago? No one knows – but what we do know is that Santorini is as wonderful as the paradise that he and other philosophers were describing already back in 360 B.C.

Santorini is also called Thira, and its capital city is Fira. It’s a highly touristy island, and the best time to avoid the peak season is to travel in May-June.

If you’re active and don’t mind stairs, staying in Fira or Oia – the cliffside towns filled with charming cafes, shops, and points of interest – would be perfect. From here, there are daily buses to the beaches of Kamari and Perissa. Most holidaymakers are at the beaches, Kamari and Perissa, so if you prefer a quieter stay, we recommend staying at Perivolos.

We recommend using beach shoes as the stones on the beach get very hot in the sun, and the stones in the sea can be slippery!
