Kos

A paradise for you who like nice beaches, good food and great shopping!

The island is considered one of the best party islands, but the island offers so much more! Enjoy wonderful beaches, picturesque villages and interesting attractions.

Kos is a Greek island in the Dodecanese island in the Aegean Sea.

The island has about 40,000 inhabitants and is located between the islands of Kalymnos and Nisyros and only 4 kilometres outside the Turkish coastal town of Bodrum.

Kos is the island’s capital, and it was also here where the ancient city was founded in 366 BC. For those of you who are interested in history, we can recommend a visit to the archaeological museum. There are several ancient finds from excavations on the island. In the city, there are also the ruins of a temple dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite.

There are plenty of nice beaches to visit and here are some of them: Kardamena, Lambi and Tigaki. All these are close to Kos city. Paradise Beach is one of Kos’ most popular beaches and is close to Kefalos, which is on the southern part of the island.

Eat good food at Kos! Many restaurants have an international menu that can be found at tourist resorts around the world, but also several traditional taverns.

The Greek and Turkish cuisine have many similarities to each other, and especially in Kos, one can encounter a lot of dishes that are also found in Turkey, eg. Adana kebab which is a kind of spicy meat patties with yoghurt, red onion and fresh parsley on shredded pita bread. This is quite understandable considering that the Turkish mainland is only 4 kilometres away and Kos was for a long time occupied by the Turks.

Norwegian Holidays’s handpicked hotel is located in the centre, close to the airport and to the beach.

Do not miss!

Tip 1 The mountain village of Zia is Kos’ highest point. From here, you have a beautiful view. Both tourists and locals also come to admire the sunset!

Tip 2 Go on a boat trip where you will experience three different islands on the same day: Kalymnos, Platia and Pserimos. If you want to go on a longer excursion and stay overnight, then you can go to Samos which is about 3 hours.

The best time to visit

All year round, but the best time for sunbathing and swimming is between June – September when it is the warmest.
