Heraklion

Heraklion

Crete is a multifaceted island that satisfies the needs of most people for a successful holiday. At Norwegian Holidays, we have a long experience of arranging trips to this fabulous holiday island.

With a width of 260 km and a height of 60 km, Crete is the largest island in Greece. Crete is also Europe’s southern outpost in the Mediterranean, and the warm winds from Africa cause the mercury to rise high in June-August. Because of the hot climate, spring and autumn are the best time to visit Crete. There are two airports in Crete, Chania in the west and Heraklion in the east.

If you travel to the east side of Crete, you usually arrive in the island’s capital Heraklion. The city itself is not a popular tourist resort because it lacks beaches, but this part of Crete has plenty of nice beach resorts and shows some of the island’s finest beaches! There are both shallow, fine sandy beaches for families with children and hidden coves where you can enjoy peace and quiet.

At Norwegian Holidays, you will find a well-balanced hotel program that fulfils most holiday wishes for a trip to the east side of Crete. In our hotel selection, you can choose between small, cosy and charming hotels, medium-sized family hotels or complete resort hotels. Common to the resorts in eastern Crete is that they are quiet and peaceful and that the hotels are close to the beach.

If you have not been to Crete before, you just have to go and if you have been here before, welcome back! At Norwegian Holidays, you always get an extremely affordable trip.

You can easily sort out your favourite hotel among our destinations below! Make your vacation a little easier and book a hotel with All Inclusive.

Hersonissos

The two towns of Hersonissos and Stalis are close to each other and are half an hour from the airport, although these are relatively small towns, they are quite lively. Hersonissos is perhaps Crete’s most famous party town and in high season it is almost only young people who go there. With its long bar street and the popular water park for adults, Star Beach, Hersonissos is a party favourite. If you go here in the spring or fall, both cities are destinations that fit the whole family.

Agios Nikolaos

Many believe that the city of Agios Nikolaos is the most beautiful in Crete with its picturesque fishing port and two beautiful beaches on either side of the centre. Here, you become a part of the Greek everyday life in a completely different way than in cities built solely for tourists. Every Wednesday, it’s a popular market that you can’t miss if you stay here. It takes about 75 minutes to get to Agios Nikolaos from the airport.

Analipsi and Anissaras

The two towns of Analipsi and Anissaras are also close to each other and are perfect for you if you want to relax and chill on the beach. Fine sand and stone beaches, as well as a good selection of taverns and cafes, can be found in both cities. There is no vibrant nightlife, but if you want more hustle and bustle, it is only 20 km to the big city of Heraklion. The area is also very popular for those who like to hike. It takes about 30 minutes to get here from the airport.

Amoudara

If you are just looking for a week with sunbathing and good food then Amoudara is a perfect choice. You stay directly by the beach, which is very child-friendly. The city does not have many shops and restaurants but here you usually live in one of the all-inclusive hotels. It takes about 20 minutes to go to Amoudara from the airport.

Kokkini Chani

The town of Kokkini Chani is a good starting point if you want to see this part of Crete. It is close to both Hersonissos and Heraklion if you want to shop, party or just walk around in a larger city. Many of the island’s best destinations are nearby and the Kokkini Chani also has a beautiful beach when you just want to relax on a sunbed. It takes about 20 minutes to get to Kokkini Chani from the airport.

Transfer

If you want a transfer from the airport to your hotel, you can easily book this when booking your trip. At Norwegian Holidays, we offer Crete taxi transfers or bus transfers. The bus alternative is usually the cheapest, but the bus might stop at one or more hotels. If you choose a taxi to and from the airport, you always go directly to your hotel; it is a little more expensive yet comfortable.
